Jain’s daughter quits after furore
Following the Opposition’s allegations of nepotism, Delhi health minister Satyendar Jain’s daughter, Soumya, on Thursday resigned from the post of adviser of Aam Aadmi mohalla clinics, even as her father said that she was not being paid a “single penny”.
“It was not an executive post. She has resigned as adviser of the mohalla clinics as she was hurt by the controversy. She was being mentally tortured despite doing nothing wrong,” Mr Jain said.
Soumya had been made in- charge of the clinics on an honorary basis. She was also designated as adviser to the health secretary-cum-mission director of the National Health Mission.
Defending the government’s decision to appoint his daughter, the minister said that his daughter often advised him on political matters too. “She is a qualified architect and a brilliant student. She recently decided against taking admission to a reputed institution, thinking she would be busy for the next three- four months,” he said.
In a continued attack on Mr Jain, the BJP demanded his resignation. Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay said a party delegation will on Friday meet lieutenant- governor Najeeb Jung and demand cancellation of appointments done without issuing a public notice. He said that they had asked the L- G to constitute a panel headed by a high court judge to probe the matter.
Mr Upadhyay added that Ms Jain’s resignation was an admission of the fact that her appointment was “immoral and illegal”. He alleged that 10,000 AAP volunteers have been hired for government projects.
