DU’s distance study admissions begin

Undergradu­ate admissions at both Non- Collegiate Women’s Education Board ( NCWEB) and School of Open Learning ( SOL) began on Friday.

After an increase in nearly 5,700 seats and 12 centres this year, 25 NCWEB centres have issued cutoffs for students seeking admission to B. Com. and B. A. courses. So far, there were 6,084 seats and 13 centres, now increased to 11,784 seats and 25 centres.

However, 21 out of the 25 centres have set the same cut- off of 78 per cent for admission to B. A. ( programme) and 88 per cent for B. Com. for general category.

Miranda House and Hansraj College centres have declared cut- offs of 87- 88 per cent for B. A. ( programme) and 91- 92 per cent for B. Com.

The cut- offs at Aditi Mahavidyal­aya and Bhagini Nivedita College centres have been set at 76 per cent for B. A. and 87 per cent for B. Com.

“All colleges are the same when it comes to studies. It has brought relief to those students who are interested in taking up B. A. and B. Com. and have scored between 78 to 90 per cent. We received about 58,583 applicatio­ns this year,” said NCWEB officiatin­g director Anju Gupta.

While there has been a dip of 1 to 2 per cent in the cut- off for the B. A. ( programme) for the general category students in the existing 13 centres, B. Com. witnessed an increase of 3 per cent as compared to last year.

The admission process will continue till July 18 and the second cut- off list will be out on July 20. The board will not be charging any fee from students under the persons with disability ( Pwd) category.

SOL began with the admission process which has been made completely online this year, including the payment of fees.

Only students under Pwd category and below poverty line ( BPL) categories have the option to apply in person. SOL, which admits nearly 1.5 lakh students every year to its undergradu­ate courses, offers B. A. ( programme), political science ( hons), English ( hons), B. Com. and B. Com. ( hons) followed by five post- graduate courses.

The last date for SOL admission is August 31 without late fee and September 15 with late fee of ` 200.
