High alert in city after terror attack in France

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

Delhi has been put on high alert after terror attack in France and security has been beefed up at almost all crucial locations. Security at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, diplomatic enclaves, railway stations, Metro and bus terminals have been stepped up.

Vigil is being kept around prominent hotels, malls and markets in the city. Security is being upgraded in and around crowded markets and office buildings in the Lutyen’s Zone that has offices of several ministries.

Delhi police sources said that the perceived threat has seen regular nakabandis being organised across the city. The police is also ensuring that CCTV cameras at all places with high footfall, like popular markets in the city and Metro stations are functional. Patrolling across the city has been intensified, the source added.

The measures are being taken after a terrorist attack on a Bastille Day fireworks celebration in the southern French city of Nice on Thursday night that killed at least 84 people and left 202 others injured. The truck driver also open- fired at the citizens before being shot dead by the police. While no organisation has taken responsibility for the attack, sources claim that it was the work of a terrorist outfit.

Since the Islamic State attacks last year, all public events in France have been guarded by the armed police. However, there was little they could do to stop the speeding truck before it could bring down the barricade.
