-

Islamabad: Pakistan’s Sindh Assembly on Friday elected Pakistan People’s Party leader Murad Ali Shah as the province’s new chief minister. Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani said 91 votes were cast and Mr Shah received 88 against three for Pakistan Tehrik- e- Insaf nominee Khurram Sher Zaman. The PTI was the only party that contested the election for the post of provincial chief minister against the PPP. Other Opposition parties, including the Pakistan Muslim League ( Nawaz), the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and the Pakistan Muslim League ( Functional) did not nominate any candidate. “I declare Murad Ali Shah, who has secured the highest number of votes, as Leader of the House and invite him to take his seat,” the Speaker said. The new CM replaces Qaim Ali Shah who was asked by the PPP leadership to resign a few days earlier, our Pakistan correspondent reports.
