TAX RETURNS DEADLINE EXTENDED

The government on Friday extended the last date for filing incometax return to August 5 due to bank strike and disturbanc­es in Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier the last date of filing of income tax return was July 31.

As far as Jammu and Kashmir is concerned that the last date has been extended to August 31. “In view of today’s bank strike and disturbanc­e in J&K, due date of IT return filing is being extended. For assessees across India, liable to file IT returns by 31st July, deadline is extended up to 5th August,” said revenue secretary Dr Hasmukh Adhia.

Meanwhile, the daylong strike by public sector banks’ employees to protest proposed merger of SBI associates with the parent and other issues is likely to affect transactio­ns worth ` 12,000 crore to ` 15,000 crore, Assocham has said on Friday.
