Man kills friend over remarks against his wife

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

A 24- year- old youth was battered to death with an LPG cylinder after he allegedly made vulgar remarks against his friend’s wife in north Delhi’s Sarai Rohilla on Saturday morning.

The accused, 32- year- old Aryan, fled his home after the crime. But he was nabbed by the police within hours. He has been booked for murder and has been sent to Tihar Jail after being produced in a city court.

Aryan and Gautam, the victim, worked at a jewellery-manufacturing unit in Karol Bagh. They had been neighbours in Sarai Rohilla’s Shastri Nagar area for the last one year.

DCP ( North Delhi) Madhur Verma said the duo had consumed alcohol together after work on Friday evening before heading for home. They decided to continue the drinking session at Aryan’s home after arriving there around 1.30 am on Saturday.

Aryan has told the police that during their conversation, Gautam made some indecent references to his wife who was at home at that time. That snowballed into an argument and a subsequent scuffle between Aryan and Gautam.

“The accused asked his wife to stay in her room as he rained blows on Gautam. He then picked up an empty gas cylinder from his kitchen and attacked the victim,” said Mr. Verma.

During the initial scuffle, Aryan’s wife had sought help from her neighbours who had intervened and calmed the duo.

Sometime later, neighbours said, they heard sound of gas cylinder hitting the floor, but it was too late by the time they could intervene again.

It was only after Gautam was battered to death that the police was informed. A police team rushed to the spot after receiving a call from neighbours around 3 am, but the accused had fled by then. The gas cylinder used in the murder has been recovered.

The victim’s body was sent for post- mortem and a probe initiated into the murder. A team formed to nab the accused and he was apprehended from the area soon. Aryan’s wife too was questioned in connection with the murder, but the police said there was no indication of her involvement.
