Estranged couple abandon newborn in MP court, flee

A bizarre drama played out in a family court in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday when a couple, fighting for divorce, abandoned their fivedayold infant in the midst of hearing in the case and fled.

During the hearing, the couple suddenly got involved in heated exchanges. While Sangeet demanded maintenanc­e for rearing the child, Manoj rejected her plea, arguing he did not fathered the child since he was staying separately from her after filing the divorce suit three years ago. Infuriated over her estranged husband’s arguments, Sangeeta fled the court in a huff shoving the newborn into his arms. Manoj followed her abandoning the kid in the court. The unexpected turn of event had left the court baffled. Later, the judge ordered the police to arrange medical care for the infant by admitting him in a hospital. “The baby was admitted in the local community health centre and later shifted to the district hospital,” Jatara police station incharge D. S. Yadav said.
