Woman gangraped, attacked with acid

A 40- year- old woman, who came to Kanpur from Allahabad a few days ago, was allegedly raped by three men who also poured acid on her face before dumping her on the tracks close to Kanpur railway station.

The victim has suffered serious burn injuries on her face and neck and has apparently permanentl­y damaged one eye.

She has been admitted to the Ursula Hospital and is undergoing treatment.

Kanpur SSP Shalabh Mathur said that the victim was hospitalis­ed and could not speak due to facial acid burns.

He said that one of her eyes was severely damaged.

passersby late on Friday afternoon,” the SSP said.

The accused apparently poured acid on her face to conceal her identity.

The SSP said that investigat­ions into the matter will begin as soon as the victim recovers and is able to speak.

A case has been lodged at the Collectorg­unj police station.

The SSP has also suspended two constables, Mahendra Yadav and Sushil Kumar, for not providing immediate medical care to the victim.

No arrests have been made.
