Elephant tramples youth to death

Bhubaneswar: A youth was on Saturday killed in an elephant attack at Kutirpal village in Orissa’s Balasore district. The deceased was identified as Jatia Manik ( 32), son of Ratnakar Manik. According to reports, the victim was attacked by a pachyderm while he was out of his house for some personal engagement. Jatia died as he sustained severe injuries on his head and hand, reports said. Footprints on the scene indicated that a herd of elephants ventured into the human habitation after crossing a nearby hill. Forest officials and the police have started a probe into the incident.
