3 robbers arrested for killing cop in Bawana

The Delhi police on Saturday arrested three persons in connection with the murder of constable Anand Singh, who had sacrificed his life while attempting to apprehend three robbers in Bawana.

The three accused have been identified as Sumit Thakran ( 21), Rahul alias Panda and Sunil alias Churi Sehrawat ( 20).

“Acting on a tip off, the three accused have been arrested. The incriminat­ing weapon of offence, along with the motorcycle used in the crime and the robbed cellphone of the complainan­t, has been recovered from them,” DCP ( special cell) Pramod Singh Kushwaha said.

According to the police, Sumit was arrested from Bawana road. On his instance, Rahul was arrested in Daryapur Kalan Village and the third accused, Sunil, was arrested from his residence. The three accused were brought to the special cell office in Lodhi Colony early Saturday morning.

The police said that on August 19, at around 9.15 pm, the slain police constable, who was posted in chowki number 5 of Bawana, was passing by Samosa chowk on his bike when he noticed the three accused trying to flee after robbing a lady. “The robbers entered into a fist fight with the cop and while trying to flee, one of the robbers, armed with a pistol, shot him in the chest,” Mr Kushwaha said.
