JNU rape case: Court rejects bail of accused

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

A Delhi court on Saturday dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of JNU student Anmol Ratan in connection with a rape case lodged against him by a 28- year- old Ph. D. scholar of the university. The court said that since he had already surrendered before the police, there was no need to hear arguments on his anticipatory bail plea. Anmol was on the run since the case was registered against him. On Wednesday night, he had surrendered before the police and was produced before the Patiala House courts on Thursday morning, which remanded him to judicial custody. During the hearing, the Delhi police said that they did not want his custody. The court allowed their submission and sent Anmol to jail. The jail authorities have also been directed by the court to provide him proper medical facilities after he submitted that he was suffering from heart ailment. According to the prosecution, a first- year Ph. D. student has alleged that Anmol, also a JNU student and a member of AISA, raped her on August 20. The victim has alleged that the accused offered her a cold drink laced with sedative and raped her.
