SDMC BEGINS RECYCLING OF GREEN WASTE
The SDMC has started using “wood chipper” machines to recycle and reuse the waste in its jurisdiction. It has commissioned seven wood chipper machines in its south zone in a function organised at Green Park. “The entire area under the SDMC will become green waste- free within the next three months. The west and south zone under the SDMC have achieved this appreciable feat,” said the chairman of the standing committee, Shalinder Singh Monti. According to Mr Monti, around five tonne green waste is being generated daily in each of the four zones and the transportation of nearly 22 tonne green waste to the landfill site at Okhla is a challenging task. The waste will be recycled through the chipper machines and reused after the waste takes the shape of shredded powder. This powder will be used as manure in parks and for trees situated along the roads. This will help in saving transportation and fuel cost that is being spent currently on trucks for dumping the green waste at the landfill site.
