Out with the old, in with the new
This has been a week of goodbyes and hellos for gamers
While Forza Horizon 3 was received spectacularly at the launch, it wasn’t the happiest day for Forza Horizon fans as news broke that the Original Forza Horizon for Xbox 360 would soon be removed from the Xbox Store. While it doesn’t make sense to go back to the game anymore, given Horizon 2 was leaps and bounds better and Horizon 3 being one of the best open world racers ever, it’s still sad to see it go.
Community manager, Brian Eckberg made an official post announcing that the game and all of its DLC would no longer be available after October 20, however if you purchase it before that you can find all the content in your library permanently. The game was actually part of Microsoft’s ‘ Games with Gold Program’ a few weeks back and thanks to backwards compatibility, gamers who picked it up there can once again enjoy the original even on Xbox One.
While we bid farewell to a game that kickstarted one of the greatest racing franchises, we are also welcoming back a cult classic this week. EA’s Battlefield 2142 wasn’t a big hit, but was definitely a fun scifi shooter. The game met an untimely end thanks to the massive GameSpy shut down back in 2014 that affected a large number of games and despite early attempts, EA gave up on bringing it back.
Well, the game is now back thanks to a fan made project, Battlefield 2142 Revive. It’s free to download and play, however, is not an official EA project but they seem to have let it slide so far. In recent times, Nintendo have struck down scores of fan- made projects, understandably annoying a lot of fans in the process but EA seem to be much more relaxed, and possibly happier to ride the PR wave and generate goodwill in the run up to Battlefield 1’ s launch later in October.
