Siddhi grabs Day One honours

On a day when the profession­als struggled on the narrow and tricky course, rookie Siddhi Kapoor showed glimpses of her talent with a two- under par 70 to grab the opening day’s lead in the 14th leg of the Hero women’s profession­al golf tour at the Delhi Golf Club on Tuesday.

Following Siddhi were Gursimar Badwal and amateur Shreya Ghei at two- over 74 in the ` 7 lakh event.

Kolkata’s Siddhi had an indifferen­t start with a bogey on the very first hole. She had two two more in her front nine but turned things around in remarkable fashion and fired six birdies ( three on the trot from the 6th) while dropping one more shot. She finished the round on 70 to take pole position for the first time in her profession­al career.

Kapurthala’s Gursimar played a birdie less round with two bogeys to finish four strokes adrift of the leader. Shreya had two birdies along with an equal number of bogeys in her front nine. She played a birdie- less back nine with bogeys.

Kolkata’s Neha Tripathi and Panchkula’s Amandeep Drall were tied fourth with three- over 75s. Neha’s card on the day included a birdie along with four bogeys.

Amandeep’s round too followed a similar script, as she carded a birdie while dropping four shots.

Delhi’s Vani Kapoor, Chandigarh’s Saaniya Sharma and Pune’s Shweta Galande were tied for sixth on four- over 76. Vani had a rare off day as she dropped five shots, while carding a lone birdie.

Saaniya started impressive­ly and birdied the very first hole. However, she went on to drop two shots along with a triple bogey.

Shweta’s round included three birdie and seven bogeys.

Delhi’s Mehar Atwal and Noida’s Vaishavi Sinha were tied for ninth at five- over 77, one stroke ahead of Ankita Tiwana.
