No takers for Rajasthan Cong’s dinner diplomacy

- SANJAY BOHRA

Even before senior Dr Hari Singh formally joined the Congress, the jat leader’s “ghar wapsi” has met with resistance and scepticism from within the party with former chief minister Ashok Gehlot’s camp raising questions his loyalty to the party.

Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee (RPCC) president Sachin Pilot said to have been instrumental in wooing back the outspoken jat leader, a known critic Mr Gehlot.

The jat resigned leader had from the Congress in 2011 due to his differences with Mr Gehlot. Therefore, his reentry is likely to cause heartburn among former chief minister’s supporters.

Even second generation of jat leaders are not happy with his re-entry in the party.

While elders like former PCC chief Narayan Singh are quiet, the first salvo was fired by leader of the Opposition Rameshwar Dudi, saying that the leaders who left the party for personal gains have now been returning after not getting anything.

Dr Singh is likely to join the party in Delhi on October 27. While the party would not mind its old flock coming back to its fold, but for the moment it is likely to derail party’s state incharge Gurudas Kamat’s diplomacy.

It was his brainchild that breaking bread together will bridge differences between senior party leaders for effective campaign against Vasundhara Raje government to bring the party back into power.

Mr Gehlot took the initiative and hosted the first dinner. Though it was supposed to be a fortnightly event, no announcement for second dinner has come yet.
