Govt wakes up, forms team to monitor illegal crackers

The Delhi government on Tuesday constitute­d 11 teams, headed by the SDMs, to crackdown on the illegally imported toxic crackers during Diwali. The teams have been directed to conduct surprise inspection­s and take action against sellers and buyers of the illegal crackers.

In the review meeting conducted by environmen­t minister Imran Hussain on Tuesday, the teams have been directed to make surprise inspection­s daily and to take action, as per the law, against violators found stocking and selling illegal/ imported Chinese firecracke­rs.

The Delhi police has also been requested to take necessary action and also to provide assistance to teams set up by Delhi government. The minister directed the teams of area SDMs, DPCC and Delhi police to intensify field visits and take stringent actions against the violators.

He also directed the district magistrate­s and the SDMs to increase public awareness among people regarding orders of the Supreme Court putting complete ban on bursting of sound emitting fire crackers between 10 pm and 6 am. “The police informed that they have restricted the number of licences for sale of fireworks,” an official statement said.
