Xiaomi unveils flagship Note 2, concept MIX
Xiaomi unveiled its latest flagship at an event in Beijing on Monday. The smartphone has a dual curved edge display which uses a 3D curved glass on both front and rear panels. The Mi Note 2 sports a 5.7inche OLED display, is powered by a SD821 2.35GHz Performance Edition SoC, with up to 6GB RAM and up to 128GB storage. The smartphone is equipped with a 22.56MP rear camera with OIS, draws power from a 4070mAh battery (Quick Charge 3) and will run MIUI8. Prices start at CNY 2,799 (4GB/64GB), CNY 3,299 (6GB/128GB) and the Global Edition 6GB RAM/128GB model with global LTE bands will be priced at CNY 3,499.
Alongside the Note 2, Xiaomi also showcased the MIX, a concept smartphone that Xiaomi claims to have been working on for a while. They claim to achieve 91.3 per cent screen-to-body ratio with a 6.4-inch OLED display that starts from the top edge, eliminating the earpiece and pushing the front camera on the bottom. The infrared sensors are replaced by ultrasonic sensors, while the earpiece is replaced by a piezoelectric ceramic technology which sends physical vibrations to the user’s ear as audio.
The Mi MIX is powered by a SD821 chipset and is developed with designer Philippe Starck. The MIX has an edgeless display design with a fully ceramic body and is powered by a 4400mAh battery. Xiaomi Mi MIX comes in two configurations — a 4GB + 128GB standard version for RMB 3499 and a limited edition for RMB 3999 (Mi MIX 18K) which features 6GB/256GB and 18-karat gold rims around the rear camera and fingerprint sensor.
While the Samsung Note 2 would soon be available in the country, the MIX seems to be a rare possibility.
