- AGE CORRESPONDENT

Jashandeep Singh netted four times while Gurveer Singh scored a brace as Mohali’s Government Model Senior of School trounced Maharana Pratap Sports College of Uttarakhand 12-1 in a Group D match of the Steelbird Helmet 45th Nehru junior hockey tournament in the capital on Sunday.

Jashandeep began the rout just two minutes into the game through a field goal. He completed a hat-trick by netting two more in the fourth and sixth minutes, putting his team ahead 3-0. Navpreet Singh made it 4-0 for the Mohali school in the 10th minute before Boby Singh Dhami (19th minute) of Uttarakhand school made it 1-3.

The Uttarakhand school did not get any further reason to celebrate as Mohali’s Parteek (20th), Gurveer (45th, 61st), Rahul (57th), Manpreet Singh (59th), Anmol Singh (60th) and Ranjodh Singh (68th) added to their misery.

Directorate General – NCC Blue suffered a similar fate as they went down 1-10 to CRZ Senior Secondary School of Sonepat in Group B.

Pankaj was well complemented by Parmeet (33rd, 55th) and Sachin (29th), Yashdeep Siwach (41st), Sahil (52nd) and Deepak (69th). However, NCC Blue managed to pull one back through Pavan Madivalar in the 34th minute.

Earlier in Group C, Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Baba Bakal Sahib, came from behind to salvage a 4-3 win against Bengaluru’s Army Boys Sports Company.

The Army boys went ahead in the ninth minute through M. Jorson Singh’s field goal, but Arshdeep Singh helped the Punjab boys equalise in the 20th. The Bengaluru boys took the lead for a second time in the very next minute as Anthony Mundu converted a penalty corner. Before the teams went into halftime, Manjeet netted one in the 32nd to make it 3-1 for the Army boys.

After the changeover, the Khalsa boys changed gears to fire in three through Arshdeep (52nd), Ramanpreet Singh (63rd) and Harmanpreet Singh (65th) to seal the win.

Anurud Bhengra hit a brace and Roshan Kerketta netted one for the Jharkhand school, while Mukesh Kumar hit both the goals for the Ludhiana boys.
