New Delhi: It will be mandatory for the private schools in the national capital to follow “neighbourhood criteria.” According to the criteria, the schools will have to give admission to every student residing within a distance of one kilometre. The schools will be given liberty to decide admission to the students residing at the distance above 1,000 metres. A group of private schools will offer it’s feedback in this regard to the city government on Tuesday. Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia held a meeting with the private school operators to review various problems during the admissions to the private schools on Monday. Mr Sisodia and senior officials of the education department asked these operators to give their feedback on the admission process. During the meet, these representatives urged the government to take their problems seriously. During the meet, Mr Sisodia clarified that the students residing near a particular school should not be denied admission in any case. He said that during admissions, the neighbourhood criteria should be followed. The meet stressed that students within a kilometre from the school should be granted admission, while the schools could decide the criteria for the students putting up beyond this distance. The meet had representation from various forums who ensured cooperation from their side to the minister, but demanded time to give their feedback.
