SYL canal has to be built, says top court

Observing that “enough is enough,” the Supreme Court on Wednesday asked the Centre and the Punjab government to construct the SutlejYamuna Link (SYL)) canal and ensure implementation of the orders passed by the apex court.

Senior counsel Ram Jethmalani for Punjab informed the court that over one lakh persons with spades are ready to cross Haryana and enter Punjab tomorrow to construct the canal by force. This will result in violence, he added. Taking note, the court asked both Haryana and Punjab to maintain status quo.
