Cops bust drug cartel, 2 arrested

The Delhi police has claimed to have arrested two members of a drug cartel who used to source their heroin from Myanmar and supply it to India. A total of three kilograms of high quality heroin worth `12 crore has been recovered from the accused.

The accused have been identified as Nitin Gupta and Hefajuddin. The contraband is said to be valued at `12 crore in the internatio­nal market.

The special cell had been working on drug peddlers operating in the states of Manipur, UP, Delhi and Punjab. After two months of developing informatio­n, the members of the

group were identified.

“On 21 February 2017, specific informatio­n was received an important

member of this drug cartel had arrived in Delhi and he was staying in a hotel in Mahipalpur. It was also found that he would deliver a large consignmen­t of heroin to one of their Delhi-based conduits near Hotel Smart Stay, Mahipal Pur,” said a senior police official.

The accused were later arrested upon identifica­tion and the contraband was found wrapped in several layers of thick carbon paper to conceal it from Airport authoritie­s.

“The duo was interrogat­ed wherein they disclosed that they are members of an internatio­nal narcotic drug cartel being run by the main kingpin Shahyar from Manipur.”

“Hefizuddin further disclosed that he had brought the recovered heroin in Delhi from Manipur by air,” the senior official added.
