BLAST CONVICT PLANS TO VISIT HOMETOWN

- ATUL KRISHAN

Alleged LeT terrorist Tariq Ahmed Dar, who was convicted in the 2005 Delhi serial blasts case, appeared before a Delhi court on Thursday and told it that he was released from Tihar Jail on Wednesday night. The court had issued a production warrant for Dar after he was not released from Tihar Jail despite being granted bail by the court. The court had asked the jail authority to tell it the reason as to why Dar was not released despite getting bail. Dar has decided to visit his hometown Kashmir during the weekend. His family said that they will be back to Delhi as Dar will have to attend court proceedings in March. The family said that they were speaking with their lawyer and were mulling to challenge the lower court’s verdict in the Delhi high court. They said that Dar was at a friend’s house, but could not sleep the whole night. Speaking with this newspaper, Dar said that he wanted to meet his family members in Kashmir and said that he was missing his daughters Rehmat (13) and Fatima (11) very much. He said that his wife Ruqiya and his father-in-law had been supporting him in fighting his legal battle. “But today he is no more. I will visit his grave in Kashmir. A few friends of mine are also waiting for me in Kashmir,” he said. Dar was awarded 10 years jail term in connection with the serial blasts case. He is still facing a case of money laundering lodged against him by the Enforcement Directorate.
