Smartphone giants unveil Next-Gen gadgets on Day 1 of Mobile World Congress

The world's biggest mobile trade platform, Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, is on and many smartphone giants have unveiled their next-generation smartphone­s on the first day of the event

Huawei

uawei took wraps off of its much acclaimed P10 and P10 Plus at the MWC event in Barcelona, which differs only by their screen size and battery capacity. The P10 comes with a 5.1-inch HD display and runs on a 3200mAh battery. The P10 Plus comes with a 3750mAh battery. The screens of both the smartphone­s are protected by 2.5D Gorilla Glass 5, and supports fast charging as well.Both phones are powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 960 SoC and Mali-G71MP GPU. The P10 comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, while the P10 Plus comes with 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage or 6GB RAM/ 128GB storage bundles. Both the smartphone­s sport a dual camera setup with one 20MP sensor that takes in monochrome details, and another 12MP sensor which takes in RGB details. While the P10 is priced at 649 (`45,700), the P10 Plus will be available at a starting price of 699 (`49,200).

Lenovo

The Lenovo-owned Moto launched two smartphone­s — Moto G5 and G5 Plus — starting at a price of $299 (approx. Rs 14,000). As the name suggests, the G5 Plus is a bigger variant, featuring a display of 5.2-inch, while the G5 has a 5-inch display.

In terms of specificat­ions, the G5 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC, coupled with 2GB/4GB RAM with 16GB/32GB storage option, 2800mAh battery, features a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera. The G5 Plus is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 Soc, coupled with 2GB/3GB/4GB with base storage at 32GB/64GB storage option, 3000mAh battery, sports a 12MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera. Both smartphone­s will operate on Android Nougat and will be made available globally in March.

BlackBerry

Another former big name phone brand — BlackBerry — also unveiled new devices on the eve of the congress in an attempt to make a comeback. The firm unveiled a new highend device, the KEYone, which brings back the brand’s signature physical keyboard and has a larger screen than previous models. The smartphone sports a 4.5-inch full-HD IPS display with a pixel density of 433ppi and Corning Gorilla Glass 4, is powered by the Snapdragon 625 Octa-Core SoC, alongside 3GB of RAM and Adreno 506 GPU, a 12MP camera and an 8MP front sensor. Internal storage is capped at 32GB with expandable storage of up to 2TB. It runs on a 3505mAh battery and has support for Quick Charge 3.0 which provides 50 per cent charge in approx. 36 minutes. It runs on Android 7.1 Nougat and will go on sale starting April at a price of $549 (approx. `38,600).

LG

For its 5.7-inch G6, LG has ditched the modular-like design of its predecesso­rs. The smartphone features a QHD 5.-7 -inch display with an aspect ratio of 18:9, is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC, coupled with 4GB RAM, offering 32GB/64GB storage option, with additional expandable storage of up to 2TB. Powered by a non-removable 3300mAh battery, it sports a dualcamera setup with one 13MP sensor for wide angle and one 13MP sensor for regular shots, and a 5MP front camera. Unfortunat­ely, LG has yet not detailed anything about the pricing

details.
