Israel defence brass braces for Gaza War report
Jerusalem, Feb 27: Israeli politicians and ex-Generals are scrambling for cover ahead of the publication of a report expected to slam their conduct of the costly 2014 Gaza War on Tuesday.
The findings of a twoyear probe are expected to inflict collateral damage on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, then-defence minister Moshe Yaalon and former Army Chief of staff Benny Gantz for failing to prepare for the threat posed by Hamas tunnels from Gaza despite intelligence warnings.
For the past few days players past and present have been franticly “briefing Bulgaria coming here if we wait that long.”
There are about 1.2 million British citizens living in other EU countries. It has been suggested that they could be offered EU citizenship individually.
British employers have expressed concerns about the prospect of finding enough staff in the event of a ‘hard Brexit’, particularly reporters, providing leaks and besmirching their rivals, some directly and some obliquely,” as said Maariv daily.
“Those who played politics in the security cabinet in an unprecedented way during the war will continue if EU citizens were required to leave.
The European Parliament has announced it is investigating the UK’s treatment of EU nationals living in Britain amid reports that some have been met by a “bureaucratic wall” when they tried to secure a legal right to remain in the country. to do so this week,” Mr Yaalon wrote on his Facebook page.
The report — 200 pages including annexes — was compiled by state comptroller Yossef Shapira, who is in charge of assessing governance and use of public funds. He launched his probe in September 2014, immediately after the JulyAugust conflict between Israel and Hamas, the Islamist group which controls the Gaza Strip.
Fallout from the report is likely to pit Mr Netanyahu against his coalition partner and political rival Naftali Bennett, head of the nationalist Jewish Home party. Mr Bennett said he and members of the security cabinet were not properly briefed by Mr Netanyahu on the extent of the tunnel threat and he used his personal military contacts to get information.
