Gaurika seizes lead

-

Gaurika Bishnoi carded a three under 69 to grab the Day One lead in the fifth leg of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour at the Classic Golf & Country Club near here on Wednesday. Trailing her were Amandeep Drall and Vani Kapoor on one under 71. The `8 lakh event culminates on Friday.

Local girl Gaurika had a shaky start, carding a bogey on the second hole. However, she bounced back with an eagle and a birdie in the front nine. In her back nine, she had three birdies while dropping two shots.

Panchkula’s Amandeep begun impressively, carding a bogey free front nine, that included two birdies.

In her back nine, she dropped three shots but regained composure to finish with two birdies.

Pre-event favourite Vani too weathered an indifferent start with two early bogeys. The damage though was quickly controlled with two birdies. She had a bogey on her back nine, but an eagle on the 18th hole provided the impetus for her to finish with a sub-par score.

Jaipur’s Afshan Fatima started with aplomb, birdieing the very first hole. Thereafter, her round was a mix of impressive play and mediocrity, with three birdies offset by four bogeys. She finished with an even par score.

Amateur Tvesa Malik and Sharmila Nicollet were tied fifth at one over 73. Thai professional Walailak Satarak and Kapurthala’s Gursimar Badwal were tied seventh at 74.
