CISF: Relief from handbag tag at all airports soon

In an attempt to make air travel more comfortable for passengers, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has doing away with the practice of stamping the hand baggage tags at all airports.

On the Raising Day of the security force, CISF director general O.P. Singh said the CISF has conducted a trial that proved to be successful.

Minster of state for home Kiren Rijiju recently chaired a high-level meeting with his counterpart in the civil aviation ministry, Jayant Sinha, to effectively start the new system, which would initially be implemented at seven airports.

“We will do away with the stamping of hand baggage tag at all airports soon. The force wants air travel to be more comfortable for the fliers,” Mr Singh said.

Initially, the CISF may implement the scheme at Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Cochin, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad airports from April.

Security, CISF, and airport operators was constituted, which is conducting a survey of these airports to identify loopholes that can be plugged before rolling out the scheme.

To implement the scheme, the Central Industrial Security Force wants to install high definition multi-angle Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras, standby cameras with power backup facility, video analytics in CCTV and physical barriers by way of deploying acrylic sheets at X-ray baggage clearing levels.

The officials feel that this would not only help in providing foolproof security but will also identify the personnel who cleared the baggage.
