A dozen duped as conman promises jobs in Canada

-

The Delhi police is on the lookout of a person who on the pretext of providing jobs in Canada has allegedly duped over a dozen of people to the tune of several lakhs.

The incident came to light when a man hailing from Kushinagar, identified as Mir Hassan, and working in a tour and travel company met the accused, identified as Sumit, alias Vicky. According to Mr Hassan, Sumit has not only duped him but a dozen of people in a similar fashion by obtaining the passport and applying for a fake visa, promising them to send their wards to Canada.

The police said that Mr Hassan came in contact with the accused Sumit in September last year.

The duo became friends as Sumit used to frequent the tour and travels company located at M.S. Ali Road in Mumbai for work. In September 2017, Sumit befriended Mr Hassan and brainwashed his mind by luring him into a job in Canada. Unaware about the trap, Mr Hassan approved the deal and Sumit called him to Delhi. The police said that the complainant also revealed that he wasn’t the only one to be duped. Before leaving for Delhi, the accused had allegedly asked Mr Hassan to inquire if knew others interested in scheme.

As decided, Mr Hassan and his friend Sonu Chaudhary came to Delhi.

According to the police, Sumit allegedly told them that out of `21 lakh, they would have to shell out `7 lakh on the spot and rest would be deducted from the salary as per the terms. Agreeing to the terms, Mr Hassan and Sonu paid `3.5 lakh each to Sumit to expedite the process. In a bid to evade any suspicion, the accused, meanwhile, sent the photos of the visa and tickets to the duo asking them that they have to leave on March 2., 2017, and need to come with the remaining amount of `3.5 lakh each. As the duo came to Delhi last week, Sumit told them that the tickets got cancelled due to some technical reasons and returned the passports.

Mir Hassan grew suspicious when he saw the visa on the passport.

Upon checking with the Canada embassy, Mr Hassan learnt that no visa was processed. He approached the Kotwali police station and lodged a complaint.

The police has registered a case and a probe is underway.
