- AGE CORRESPONDENT

The Delhi police’s monthlong efforts finally reaped results on Saturday as it was able to safely recover the stolen citation of Nobel prize winner Kailash Satyarthi.

A team of 15 policemen worked extensively in the case and recovered the citation from the jungles near southeast Delhi’s Sangam Vihar area.

“I am thankful to the Delhi police for their efforts to recover the Nobel replica and the original citation. The Nobel belongs to every Indian citizen and child. Since I am the son of a policeman, I have always understood their sense of responsibility and commitment towards the nation,” said Mr Satyarthi.

The burglars struck Mr Satyarthi’s residence on February 7 while he was abroad for work. On February 12, the Delhi police arrested three brothers — Rajan, Vinod and Sunil — who had carried out the burglary but the trio neither knew the importance of the citation nor revealed where they had dumped it. A 15-member team was constituted which was tasked to map all the areas where the accused had travelled, camped and the route they had taken.

“The areas were plotted on a grid map. Everyday for the last 25 days, the team would extensively search each area along with dog squads, mounted police and the local police,” said DCP (southeast) Romil Baaniya.

During the interrogation, the accused did not disclose that they had dumped the bag there.

“The police extensively searched the forest area and a bag was spotted lying under a stone. The citation was found iside the it,” added Mr Baaniya. The citation will be handed over to Mr Satyarthi after the court procedure.
