1622 Jamestown massacre: Algonquian­s kill 347 English settlers around Jamestown, Virginia, a third of the colony’s population, during the Second Anglo-Powhatan War.

1638 Anne Hutchinson is expelled from Massachuse­tts Bay Colony for religious dissent.
