A 23-year-old girl lost her life as she intervened when her brother was being attacked by a man who was jealous as his wife was friends with her brother. Her mother was also injured during the attack.

The incident took place in southwest Delhi’s Dabri area on Tuesday morning when the accused, Sumit, who owns a grocery shop in Dabri area, entered his neighbour’s house with a knife to kill his neighbour Nitin, the victim’s brother.

According to the police, Sumit had on several occasions asked his wife not to speak to Nitin as he did not like him. Sumit was insecure of the relationship that Nitin and his wife shared and on several occasions had asked his wife not to entertain him. But despite several warnings to his wife, she continued her friendship with Nitin. The couple even had several fights over the issue.

A senior police official said that the accused claimed that Nitin was troubling his wife and despite several warning he was misbehaving with his wife. “The accused never filed any complaint with the police about Nitin misbehaving with his wife,” the official added.

On Tuesday morning around 10 am, Sumit left his house and took a knife along.

He reached Nitin’s residence where Jyoti (the victim) and his mother Lata were also present.

While he was having an argument with Nitin, he tried to stab him but his mother and sister intervened and were injured in the clash. During the fight in an attempt to stab Nitin, he accidentally stabbed Jyoti on her chest. When Nitin tried to overpower Sumit, he again attacked him and this time he stabbed Nitin’s mother on back and fled from the spot.

The duo were rushed to a nearby hospital where Jyoti succumbed to her injuries whereas Lata is stated to be out of danger.

The police was informed who arrested Sumit from near his house.
