Nod to Employee Compensation Bill
New Delhi: Parliament on Wednesday passed the Employees Compensation (Amendment) Bill, 2016, that provides for compensation of up to `1 lakh if an employee is injured in an industrial accident and has a provision for hefty penalty in case of any violation by the employers. The bill, which was passed by the Lok Sabha in 2016, was passed by a voice vote in the Upper House. Labour and employment minister Bandaru Dattatreya said the Centre is ensuring protection of jobs, wages, social security and fair wages to the workers and the bill covers workers in the organised sector. “We are bringing more workers from the informal to organised sector.”
