JAPAN, U.S., GERMANY HELP INDIA INC MOST

Japan, the US and Germany have remained the top three countries with which Indian companies have entered into foreign technology collaborat­ion (FTC) seeking technical know-how, trademark and patents.

According to a survey conducted by the RBI, these three countries accounted for 58 per cent of the reported FTC agreements while the UK, Italy, Republic of Korea, France and Switzerlan­d were other countries with significan­t shares in total technical collaborat­ion. Of the 694 Indian entities that responded in the latest survey for financial years covering 2014-2016, 306 companies reported 590 FTC agreements.

During the period, Indian firms have inked 200 FTC with Japanese companies accounting for 33.9 per cent of the total FTC while the number of such agreements with US and German companies stood at 82 and 63 respective­ly.

About 80 per cent of the reported FTC agreements were in the manufactur­ing sector, with nearly half relating to motor vehicles, etc.
