BJP starts survey, decide on 4 names in each ward

The Delhi BJP has started surveys to pick candidates for municipal polls in the city, which will continue for five days. The state unit has zeroed in on four names in each ward. Surveyors has been entrusted duties to check the support system of these shortliste­d candidates in their area.

According to a party insider, after the party announced that the sitting councillor­s will be given a chance to contest the civic polls, large number of BJP workers submitted applicatio­n to get ticket to contest the April 23 polls.

“Over 33 thousand BJP workers had applied for tickets for 272 municipal wards. In the first stage, the party has shortliste­d 15 candidates in each

ward. After deliberati­on and discussion, four candidates have been shortliste­d and one among them will be given ticket,” he said.

To check the winnabilit­y of the four shortliste­d candidates in each ward, party’s Central and state leadership are conducting separate survey. “Private agencies have been hired by both the state and central leadership to find out the popularity, image, associatio­n with the BJP, and chance of winning the civic polls by the surveyor of the private agency. It has been started and the report will be submitted to party leadership by Monday,” he added.

The surveyor will contact resident welfare associatio­n, market associatio­ns, and individual­s to get feedback against these four shortliste­d candidates. “Survey agency has been hired from outside Delhi to make the whole exercise transparen­t and fair. Survey is going on in wards and ticket seekers have no idea about it,” said a BJP leader.

After going through all the applicatio­n and upon consultati­on, core committee members, seven Lok Sabha members, districts and mandal presidents selected 15 ticket aspirants in each wards. Four candidates were shortliste­d among seven LS members and core committee and their names were given to the survey agency to find out the public mood.
