Boy killed by friend over minor tiff

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

Two friends who tried to resolve their differences through talks in turn lost their cool and allegedly attacked each other with a lethal weapon. In the melee, one of the friend, a 16-year-old minor, was killed after his friend attacked him with a machete in Gandhi Nagar police station limits.

The police said that the deceased has been identified as Junaid, while the accused has been identified as Babban, 23. According to the police, the incident took place on Friday noon. Both were good friends and lived in Kailash Nagar.

Investigations revealed that Babban and Junaid were good friends. However, Junaid for some reason, had stopped talking to Babban. On Friday noon, at around 3.30 pm, when Babban came to offer namaz at the Masjid, he saw Junaid and approached him and asked him the reason for his indifferent behaviour. Junaid, who chose not to talk to Babban, turned a deaf ear to him and went to his uncle’s meat shop in Gandhi Nagar. Babban followed Junaid to the shop and the duo got involved in a verbal duel. Junaid allegedly grabbed a machete and pointed it at Babban, the police said.

Babban, too, grabbed another machete and pointed at Junaid. The two friends in a bid to scare each other came up close armed with the weapon and in the melee, Babban slashed Junaid’s back with the sharp edged machete. As a result, Junaid collapsed on the ground, bleeding profusely. Feared getting caught, Babban ran away from the spot. Junaid, who was rushed to Chacha Nehru Hospital, was declared dead on arrival. The police was informed who then launched a man hunt and nabbed Babban in the evening while he was trying to escape to Gujarat. He told the police that he didn’t want to kill his friend Junaid and was just scaring him.
