EC grants Cong 6 more months for internal polls

After asking the Congress to complete its election process by June 30 this year, the Election Commission of India has extended the deadline to December 31, 2017. In its last Congress Working Committee meeting held in November last year, the Congress had requested the poll body to extend the date of completing its internal elections to December 31, 2017.

it six more months to complete the process of organisati­onal polls. “There will, however, be no further extension beyond December 2017,” the EC has said.

Mr Dwivedi said “The Election Commission has allowed our plea for extension of six months in holding organisati­onal elections and has granted time till December this year, against its earlier deadline of June 30.”

The Congress had cited practical problems of updating its membership list to have a proper and meaningful election both at the central and state levels.
