New York, April 2: The New York Post app has been hacked on April Fools’ Day sending out push alert notifications that included “Heil President Donald Trump”.

The Post apologised on Saturday night shortly after its app sent out a series of alerts. The Post said in a follow-up alert, “Our push alert notification system was compromised this evening. We are working to resolve the issue. Please, accept our apologies.”

The messages appeared directed at Trump. One message said, “Open your heart to those you do not understand and listen to all those you fear and look down upon.”

The alerts even included lyrics from Nirvana’s song Come As You Are, take your time, hurry up, the choice is yours, but don’t be late...

They also mentioned God and salvation saying, “I speak as an angel in the words of God.” Other posts were more cryptic, vague or seemingly religious in nature with the final one reading “with Lucid Love, Selah”, according to media reports and screen shots posted on Twitter.

The Post is owned by Trump-friendly media mogul Rupert Murdoch.

Last month, scores of Twitter accounts from media outlets and celebrities around the world were hacked with Nazi messages in Turkish. In 2013, The New York Times and The Washington Post websites were hacked on multiple occasions, and in 2014 CNN’s main Facebook and Twitter accounts were hacked along with several other CNN accounts.
