Gang of school burglars busted

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

Three members of a gang have been arrested for allegedly looting schools in Delhi-NCR during admission time between February and April, the police said on Thursday.

The gang members would travel in a car and stop near a prestigious school in Delhi or NCR. Then, one of the gang members would conduct a recce of the area and upon giving a signal, the second associate would scale the compound wall and sneak inside the school to check the status of the security and the guard’s positions. Finally, the entire gang would strike the chosen school by gaining access inside the premises through blind areas. They overpowered the guard and decamped with the booty.

However, the burglary spree came to an end on Wednesday after the Delhi police thwarted their plan to make away with huge unaccounted cash suspected to be present in schools in the wake of the ongoing admission process.

The arrested burglars have been identified as Babloo — the kingpin, Deepak, and Sunil. The trio were involved in several robberies and burglaries in prestigious schools in Delhi/NCR area. The gang was expert in breaking into schools and was operating since the last four years. With their arrest, the police has claimed to have solved more than 40 cases of school robberies/burglaries.

Probe reveals that the gang comprised of eight to 10 members. Babloo, the mastermind of the gang, chose vulnerable targets and meticulously studied the area. Depending on the target and their vulnerability, he made his strike. In some cases, the gang would first switch off the CCTV/DVR to ensure that they did not leave any clue or trail behind for the police. They then broke into the office and decamped with the cash.

The gang selected the early hours to ensure minimum resistance from the guards. After decamping with the cash and or other valuables, they used to return to their respective areas. Later, they would meet and distribute the looted cash and valuables among themselves and spend the booty in pubs and parties.

Efforts are on to nab the remaining gang members.
