DU has no data of blood donation camps in campus
Even after considering holding an annual blood donation camp on October 1 each year to mark support for National Voluntary Blood Donation Day, the Delhi University does not possess any data regarding the blood donation camps organised from the years 2010 till 2017.
The facts disclosed through an RTI application filed by law faculty student Mohit Kumar Gupta, provides that the university has no such circular/orders stating guidelines in respect of blood donation camps to be organised in and around campus, however, the requests for organising the same in the colleges are dealt at the college level by the respective principal without any intervention of the university.
The response by assistant registrar (estate) to the RTI stated that, “The registrar is empowered with final decision in respect to permissions for blood donation camps, on applications made along with detailed programme duly routed collectively through the proctor, the chief medical officer, WUS health centre and assistant registrar (estate); based on decision of meeting held on June 11, 2012. The university considers holding an annual blood donation camp in collaboration with a government hospital or a reliable hospital in the neighbourhood of the campus.”
The RTI says that no blood donation camps have been organised in the university since year 2014.
According to Mr Gupta, the university neither has a mechanism to facilitate blood donation nor feels the need for blood bank.
Asking the CMO about the status of blood donation camps in DU, he said, “We do have instructions of competent authority to organise camps in October 1. The registrar didn’t revert to this newspaper’s attempt to contact him.
