FOR THE LOVE OF LAW

- SASHIDHAR ADIVI

Rohit K. Pothukuchi has been featured in the latest Forbes List of U-30 Asia’s Most Influential Entrepreneurs for his work in bringing Standard Indian Legal Citation (SILC).

Expressing happiness over the rare distinction, a visibly excited Rohit says, “It is a great feeling. I’m happy that our work is being recognised and has been creating an impact in the business environment. Our team has really been putting in a lot of efforts, and such acknowledgments will only motivate us to do more. Today, we have academic citations covering more than 250 law schools in India.”

Law has interested Rohit since his childhood. “I went to the US when I was a year old, and later, returned to Kodaikanal for my high school. Soon, I joined Nalsar, Hyderabad. I believe the study of law has a great potential in shaping the growth of business organisations,” the founder and Chief Editor of SILC, describes.

For someone who pursued Masters from UC Berkley School of Law, and served as an Affiliate Student Research Fellow, Harvard Law School Program, not able to find a standard citation pertaining

to Indian-centric legal system, triggered this mission. “It was challenging to pitch the idea to lawyers and academicians, professors, practitioners, scholars and editors in the field of law. Naturally, there were contrasting perceptions during the working draft and it was very difficult to convince them about the need for a standard Indian citation. Networking, getting inputs and convincing people from across the country was challenging,” he says.

Rohit, who shuttles between Hyderabad and New York, now plans to celebrate his success with his family and friends.
