RADICALISED YOUTH SET FOR ‘GHAR WAPSI’

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

It is a “ghar wapsi” programme but with a difference. In an attempt to deradicalise youth who are being misled by terror outfits and their ideology, the Uttar Pradesh ATS has decided a 12-point programme to help them. According to IG ATS, Aseem Arun, the first step will be to take the parents of the youth into confidence and convince them of the need to de-radicalise the family member. The youth will also be given proper counselling by religious leaders who will convince them that they are being misled in the name of Islam. “The DeRad candidates will remain in constant touch with police officials who will help them in returning to the social mainstream,” the IG said. “The meetings will be held on a weekly basis. Later on the police officials will interact with the DeRad candidates on a random basis.” The entire process of meeting the candidates will be kept a secret and the identities of the candidates will also not be disclosed.
