First-timers to work towards cleanliness

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

BJP’s massive victory in the civic polls has resulted in many fresh faces as councillors in the three houses of the civic agencies.

Out of its 181 elected councillors, at least around 175 are first-timers who will be handing the role of councillors of their wards from now on. Moreover, with the AAP also winning 48 wards, the tally of fresh faces in the three municipal corporations go as high as an approximate figure of 210, out of the total of 270 wards.

The BJP had not fielded a single sitting councillor, in a bid to beat anti-incumbency in the municipal bodies.

Enthused with energy, the first-timers said that they swear to work towards making their respective areas garbage free. One of them even gave herself a target of 15 days.

“My main focus will be to make my area garbage free. I have set a target of 15 days for myself and I will show to the residents that the promises we made are fulfilled,” said 41-year-old Gurjeet Kaur, who won from Bhajanpura on a BJP ticket from a narrow margin of 58 votes.

“We will also approach the Centre for a 'baarat ghar' soon,” she added.

Similarly, BJP candidate Atul Gupta, who won from Kondli, said that his “first mission” would be to work towards PM Narendra Modi’s “Swachchh Bharat” initiative.
