- AGE CORRESPONDENT

Eight members of a family had a narrow escape when a portion of their roof of a two-storied house collapsed in East Delhi’s Seelampur area on early Wednesday morning.

According to the police, the injured have been identified as Tarachand, Sonu, Karan, Ramesh, Ritika, Lucky and two others. The police said that the house, located in Jagatpuri, belongs to one Badami Devi (72).

She lives with her six children along with husband Tarachand.

On Tuesday, the decadesold house was being renovated. The police said that the family members live in a two-storied house, which was in shambles and needed renovations.

After work for Tuesday was over, the family was sleeping on first and second floors of the house, when around 2.30 am a portion of the roof of the second floor caved in. As a result, the roof of the first floor, which too had grown weaker, collapsed on Tarachand and the children sleeping on both the floors.

The incident came to light after the neighbours heard a loud thud sound and rushed to check. After that they informed the fire officials.

Two rescue tenders were pressed into service and the rescue officials, after removing the debris, moved the injured to the nearby Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital, where all the eight family members were treated and now are said to be out of danger.
