JNU prof alleges car vandalised after meet

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

A JNU assistant professor on Saturday alleged that his car was vandalised and stone was pelted at his home at midnight for organising a condolence meet at the campus for Sukma and Kupwara martyrs, following which he even filed a complaint with the Vasant Kunj police station.

The police, however, denied Dr. Buddha Singh’s claim and said that he did not mention the same reason in his complaint. “We have acknowledged the complaint given by the professor but he has not stated any reason behind the vandalism in the complaint,” a senior police official said.

Dr. Singh had tweeted that he was ‘rewarded’ for organising the condolence meeting and posted pictures of the shattered windshield of the car, even as he did not name anyone for the attack.

Denying the allegations even JNU student union called it a “fake politicisation and cheap publicity” by the JNU professor.

“After the fake news run by right-wing websites about JNU after Sukma incident, the RSS machinery is using their cheap tactics to do dirty politics over dead bodies of soldiers. Dr. Singh made diversionary statement for cheap publicity that his car has been vandalised because he organised program on Sukma.

RSS always resorts to such tactics to divert attention so that tough questions are not put to home minister Rajnath Singh. Let the security guards give their testimony and bring the truth,” JNUSU said.

They added that the programme mentioned by Dr. Singh happened at Sabarmanti Dhaba till night and the stage continued to be there for 12 hours and no one touched anything.
