Wardrobe malfunctions happen to the best of us at the absolute worst times. From a loose button to tripping on trailing gowns or over high heels, to wind causing a Marilyn Monroe moment, they are unavoidable, unpredictable and can happen to anybody. We got in touch with local stylists and designers who share their hacks on avoiding such situations if possible, or how to deal with them in a classy way. From plunging necklines, to thigh high slits, it’s in our blood to experiment and be bold. But sometimes, it tends to go wrong. “Cuts are really important. When it comes to daring cuts with crazily low necklines, most people don’t want to deal with the hassle of a bra. So at times like this, I always suggest that tape does wonders. Just two bits of transparent or skin coloured tape goes a long way in keeping the look intact. But more usually than not, nip slips only happen when the dress is either too tight or too loose. So I would advice women to go for fittings and be sure of whether or not they can carry the outfit,” opines designer and stylist Aloka D’Souza. Adding to this, she also suggests that nude bras go a long way in making a look more classy than trashy. Roshini Shah of Tiara believes that confidence is the key. But despite being confident, things can go wrong. “It should always be kept in mind to dress according to the occasion. Wearing heels on a beach is obviously not a good idea and will cause more harm than good. Trailing dresses too can give way if the material is not sturdy enough. So designers have to make sure that the lining is intact as it can rip midway,” she says. “Wearing right lingerie beneath an outfit too, goes a long way. There have been occasions when the outfit looks fine at one point but can turn transparent under different lights. But I think if one is wearing the same colour lingerie beneath the outfit, it won’t do much harm. If not, tubes too can be worn under an outfit to avoid embarrassing situations,” she cautions. After ensuring that one is comfortable wearing bearing outfits, there are ways to be extra cautious, assures Pavitra Sagar, another local designer. “Leotards go a long way and are a saving grace in situations when the slit in one’s dress is too high, or the dress too short,” she opines. “Apart from that, stockings in one’s skin colour or plain black also do wonders to avoid an unwanted peek-a-boo moment,” opines the designer who believes that armed with these nifty tricks, one can carry off any outfit like a boss!
