STAFF SHOT, CASH VAN LOOTED BY TWO MEN

New Delhi: A staffer of a cash van was shot at by two unidentifi­ed bike-borne assailants in board daylight on Friday afternoon. They allegedly robbed decamped with `19 lakh cash in Begumpur area. The victim, Naveen (31), sustained one bullet injury and is undergoing treatment at the Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital where he is stated to be stable. The incident took place in pocket-A of Rohini area when the staffers had gone to refill an ATM of Union Bank of India. According to sources, insiders were involved in passing the informatio­n to the robbers about the cash van. The robbers were tailing the cash van before robbing the duo. “The cash van had started from Karol Bagh area and was stacked with `25 lakh cash. The cash van was on its way to refill cash across various ATMs in the city. At around 2.15 pm, when the cash van reached Rohini Sector-24, two staffers of the cash van got down and were heading towards the ATM of the Union Bank Of India when two armed bikers tried to snatch the cash bag,” said a senior police offcial. “Naveen held on to the cash bag. One of the culprits then opened fire at the staffers, following which a bullet hit Naveen. On hearing the gunshots, the security guard of the cash van who was seated inside the cash van came out and opened two rounds of fire. However, the two men managed to escape from the spot. After the bikers escaped, the staffers made a call to the PCR after which the local police rushed to the spot, the police added.
