Don’t like Nokia 3310? Here are some keypad alternatives

Apart from its appearance, the 3310 is a basic feature phone under the hood

Conceived as a nostalgic device, the Nokia 3310 looks cute and provides something different in an era when all phones are similar looking glass slabs. But, apart from its appearance, the 3310 is a basic feature phone underneath. It relies on 2.5G connectivity and runs on the S30+ operating system, which allows web browsing on its 2.4inch display screen. There’s FM radio and Bluetooth as well, with the provision of an expandable storage. It costs exactly `3,310.

In 2017, you can only buy this device as a novelty item, not as your daily driver. The phone lacks the basic necessities of a modern day phone and people may not be interested in an expensive show-off toy. Fortunately, we live in times when there are loads of alternatives available. So, if you have a budget around `3,310, what else could you get as an alternative to the Nokia 3310?

Samsung Metro XL (Price — `3,297) This feature phone is remarkably similar to the Nokia 3310. But, it prefers a more modern and matured look as a highend feature phone. It has a 2.8-inch vibrant screen to display a good-looking UI. It has a better 3.1MP camera with LED flash and a 2MP front camera for selfies, which the Nokia 3310 lacks.

It has a larger 128MB internal storage that is expandable up to 32GB. The phone’s UI has android-inspired widgets. As it’s made by Samsung, there won’t be any issues with its after-sales service.

Nokia 230 Dual SIM

(Price — `3,900) Another competitor from its own lineup, the Nokia 230 is premium feature phone with a 2.8-inch display with the same S30 OS as the 3310. The features that differentiate it from the 3310 are its camera and build. The 230 has a 2MP camera at the front as well as the rear. The phone is made of aluminium, which enhances the desirability of this feature phone. The design is more in line with the earlier Lumia lineup, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Gionee S96 (Price — `3,099) This one is recognisable from a kilometre due to its flashy looks. The feature phone has a stainless steel body that’s 7.4mm thick. There’s an average 2.0MP camera with an LED flash at the rear. You get the usual must-have features such as FM radio with recorder, Dual-SIM and a powerful speaker. The phone also lets you browse internet and has a native app for Facebook.

Lava KKT 40 Power (Price — `1,800) As the name would suggest, the Lava KKT 40 Power is all about its massive 2700mAh battery. It also has a segment first OTG port for charging other phones as well. There’s wireless FM radio with recording, call recording, VGA camera, and even Bluetooth on offer. The phone has a premium look with a decent build quality and provides incredible value for money.

Micromax X913 (Price — `1,749) If you are talking feature phones, you cannot ignore Micromax. The X913 is a good looking phone with clearly laid and spaced out buttons. The rear panel resembles that of an iPhone 5S, which is surely a good thing to have in this price range. You cannot access internet but you can take photos with its 0.3MP camera. There is a big 2.8inch display and Bluetooth 3.0 for wireless connections. With a 1650mAh battery, the phone can provide a standby time of 125 hours.
