CBSE Class 12 pass level dips slightly, Noida girl tops exam

Pass percentage dips, JNVs, KVs again outperform private schools

The overall pass percentage dropped to 82 per cent from last year’s 83.05 per cent in the CBSE Class 12 exams, whose results were declared Sunday. Girls outshone boys again by a nine per cent margin (87.50 per cent for girls, 78 per cent for boys).

Noida’s Raksha Gopal was nationwide topper, with 99.6 per cent, while Chandigarh’s Bhumi Sawant was second, with 99.4 per cent. Mannat Luthra and Aditya Jain, also from Chandigarh, jointly bagged the third rank, with 99.2 per cent in commerce.

The Trivandrum region had the highest pass percentage (95.62%), followed by Chennai (92.60%) and Delhi (88.37%).

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced the results of Class 12 examinatio­ns on Sunday, with Noida girl Raksha Gopal emerging as the all-India topper by scoring a whopping 99.6 per cent. The second and third positions were bagged by Chandigarh students Bhumi Sawant and Aditya Jain, who scored 99.4 per cent and 99.2 percent respective­ly.

The board announced the results of all its 10 regions simultaneo­usly. While the national pass percentage stood at 82 per cent, Trivandrum region recorded the highest pass percentage at 95.62 percent followed by Chennai at 92.60 and Delhi at 88.37 per cent. The all-India pass percentage has also gone down from 83.05 per cent to 82 per cent this year. However, the national capital improved on its performanc­e of last year when the past percentage for the Delhi region was 87.01 per cent.

According to CBSE, total number of candidates who scored over 95 per cent stood at 10,091 whereas 63,247 students scored over 90 per cent. The students scoring 95 to 100 per cent has increased from last year’s 9,351.

delay owing to Assembly elections in five states, had been conducted in 3,504 schools across the country and 10,76,761 had registered, of which 9,92,656 appeared and 8,24,355 passed.

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and Kendriya Vidyalayas again outperform­ed private schools with a pass percentage at 95.73 and 94.60 per cent respective­ly.

Sticking to the trend, girls again outperform­ed boys by 9.5 per cent with a pass percentage of 87.5 per cent compared to 78 per cent. Last year also saw a similar trend where girls fared 10 per cent better than boys.

Out of 2,499 differentl­yabled students who appeared for the exam, 2,123 passed with a pass percentage at 86.69. While 21 students in the category scored over 95 per cent, the total number of students scoring over 90 per cent were 125. Ajay K. Raj from Trivandrum, Lakshmi P.V. from Kerala and Darshana M.V. from Tamil Nadu were declared as toppers in the differentl­y-abled category.
