Shah, BJP leaders visit slum-dwellers

BJP national president Amit Shah along with Delhi state president Manoj Tiwari assembled at Shri Guru Ravi Das Dham at R.K. Puram on Sunday to offer prayer and listen the PM’s Radio Talk (Mann Ki Baat) with several party workers.

Mr Tiwari, party MP Meenakshi Lekhi, party vice-president and Delhi unit in-charge Shyam Jaju accompanied Mr Shah during his visit, seen as an attempt by the party to strike a chord with the inhabitants of slums and unauthorised colonies.

Similar gatherings were organised by the saffron party at various other locations of the national capital, including at Inderpuri, Rohini, Laxmi Nagar, Karol Bagh and Chandni Chowk.

The recent victory of the BJP in the MCD polls was attributed by the party to Tiwari’s “connect ” with the residents of unauthorised colonies, slums and rural areas.

Mr Tiwari who had spent new year’s eve at Inderpuri slum after assuming charge of Delhi BJP unit in November last year, has launched a programme of developing slums into ‘model dwellings’ on the lines of Adarsh Gram Yojna.

“We have instructed our party workers to connect people with Mann Ki Baat and get them to listen to it. Our party president visited Ravidas Ashram under the same programme,” Mr Jaju said.

However, the Delhi BJP leaders maintained a distance from Vijay Goel’s “Slum Yuva Daud” held on Sunday at DU marking launch of his “Adopt A Slum” campaign.
