Anil to receive Phalke Ratan Award

Actor Anil Kapoor will be conferred with the highest category of Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Award. The 60-yearold actor has been conferred the Phalke Ratan Award, for his contributi­on to Indian cinema. “In today’s world of glamour, it’s indeed the existence of someone who remains as fit as a fiddle, also has to look dashing at all phases of life. Needless to say also has to be the greatest (talented) performer,” says Ashok Shekhar, from the show committee of Dadadsaheb Phalke Academy.

According to sources, the actor will start the promotions for his forthcomin­g film,

Mubarakan from this event today. The Dadasaheb Phalke Academy has been honouring talent from the Hindi and regional film industry since the year 2000. It acknowledg­es 22 different crafts of the industry.

The organisers also announced that they were honouring Priyanka Chopra for her achievemen­ts internatio­nally. Apart from the two stars, the Dadasaheb Academy will confer a Phalke Icon of Indian Films to Anupam Kher, while Manisha Koirala will be given the Phalke Brave and Beautiful award. Actress Shilpa Shetty has bagged the Phalke Style Icon, with Raveena Tandon and Juhi Chawla being bags awards for their recently released films Maatr and Chalk n Duster respective­ly. While Dangal director Nitesh Tiwari bags the Best Director Award in the best commercial film category.
