Yogi pulls up officials over dismal performance
In his first major crackdown on the state bureaucracy, UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath has sought an explanation from district magistrates and police chiefs of 10 districts each in the state.
The chief minister has directed the chief secretary to seek an explanation from these officers for their dismal performance in dealing with the complaints of the common man.
The district magistrates who have been asked to explain their performance belong to districts that include Lucknow, Hardoi, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Allahabad, Sitapur, Agra, Jaunpur, and Lakhimpur.
The SSPs whose explanation is being sought are those posted in Lucknow, Hardoi, Gorakhpur, Lakhimpur, Sitapur, Bahraich, Jaunpur, Allahabad, Ferozabad and Mainpuri.
The interesting fact about this list is that Lucknow, the state capital, and Gorakhpur, the constituency of Mr Adityanath, are victims of bureaucratic apathy. The district magistrates and police chief of both these districts figure in the list.
The chief minister, it may be recalled, had asked all the district magistrates and police chiefs to deal with people’s complaints at the district level and accordingly inform the complainant.
“The feedback from certain districts showed that the local administration has not dealt with complaints and people have had to come to the chief minister’s residence every day to solve issues. In certain districts where the system has started working, the complaints at the janata darshan have dried up,” explained a senior official.
